Digital Storytelling

Learn how to use digital storytelling to involve students in classroom content, providing a relevant platform for them to showcase their learning.

Participants will become familiar with effective digital storytelling as they use Frames to write and produce digital stories with images, effects, background music, and narration.

Goal
Learn how digital storytelling can assist students synthesize their ideas, to create stories, narratives and informational movies which can be presented in a creative meaningful way.

  • discover how to “hook” student with digital storytelling
  • leave ready to integrate digital storytelling with Frames

Software Skills
Participants will gain experience with Frames, learning how to:

  • add images from digital cameras and capture stills from video.
  • add image, text, music, and narration.
  • apply transitions and text effects.
  • export movies for web playback, presentations, and podcasting.

Timeline
This one-day workshop runs for approximately six hours. During the morning, participants will view project ideas, and learn the basics of creating digital stories with Frames. In the afternoon, they work in collaborative groups brainstorming ideas and creating useful classroom projects. The day ends with ideas for integration and strategies for implementation.

What is Frames?
Frames is a stop-motion animation tool. Students can create stop-motion animated stories using pictures they have taken with photographs they have taken for animation or original artwork they have created in Twist.  › Learn More

Requisite Skills
Basic operating system knowledge, comfort operating a mouse, and skill navigating the hard drive is required to participate in this workshop.
